Maharashtra U-turn on giving Rs 10 crore to Waqf board | India News – Times of India

MUMBAI/SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Maharashtra govt on Friday withdrew its order granting Rs 10 crore for functioning and strengthening of the Maharashtra State Board of Waqf, with Devendra Fadnavis intervening and pledging a probe into the order’s legality and timing once the new govt was formed. State CS Sujata Saunik withdrew the order, report Clara Lewis & Mohammed Akhef.
BJP spokesperson Keshav Upadhye was among the first to raise a red flag. In a post on social media, he said, “Currently, there is a caretaker govt in Maharashtra, and it does not have the authority to take a policy decision.”
Late afternoon, Fadnavis posted on social media that it was not appropriate for the administration to issue a government resolution disbursing funds to the Waqf Board when a caretaker govt is in place, and the chief secretary immediately withdrew it. “Once the new govt is formed, this will be investigated,” he said.
