BAREILLY/PILIBHIT: A man in his 20s, Changez Khan, was allegedly brutally beaten by right-wing activist Sanjay Mishra and his associates in Puranpur town, Pilibhit, on Sept 1. When Khan’s family approached the police, they alleged that instead of acting against the attackers, the police slapped molestation charges against Khan.
Currently hospitalised, Khan said, “I was on my way home when a friend asked me to meet him in Pankaj Colony. While having a cold drink, around 50 men led by Sanjay Mishra attacked me. They kidnapped me in a car, stabbed me, and left me with a fractured leg and a broken finger. I’m struggling to breathe.”
Two days later, an FIR was filed against Khan for molestation. Meanwhile, a video began circulating showing Mishra and his men beating Khan and dragging him down the road. On Thursday, cops filed an FIR against Mishra and 14 others for rioting, abduction, and attempted murder, but no arrests were made. Khan’s brother Amjad said, “We don’t know the woman who filed the complaint against him.” A right-wing activist claimed Khan was stalking women in the area.
