Khel Khel Mein, which hit the screens across the world on August 15, left fans in UAE disappointed. A key sequence involving Fardeen Khan‘s character development has been chopped off by the UAE Media Regulatory Office, as it violates local restrictions.
Fardeen made his way back to the big screen after 14 years with this drama. Not just fans but director Mudassar Aziz is also upset with the tweaks.
Speaking to Mid-Day, Mudassar Aziz expressed that as a filmmaker, it is both his professional and moral duty to create diverse characters and explore significant themes. He noted that Khel Khel Mein fulfills this mission. Although he found it disheartening that such relevant content, presented with dignity, was removed from the UAE version, he was heartened by the positive response and acclaim from audiences worldwide for those very scenes.
Fardeen Khan also took it in his stride and told the porta, “Through this role, I hoped to contribute to a conversation that is necessary and relevant. While edits may have been made, the intention behind the role—that of acceptance—remains unchanged, and I stand by the message’s importance.”
Khel Khel Mein, based on the Italian film Perfect Strangers, follows a gripping narrative about a group of friends whose lives are turned upside down by a mysterious and dangerous game. It stars Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal. Khel Khel Mein opened with Rs 5 crore on Independence Day last week and has earned Rs 14.05 crore in four days at the box office.
