The casting director further mentioned that many industry insiders doubted Vicky Kaushal’s casting as the lead in ‘Masaan’ initially, with some even mocking the decision. He quoted others saying, ‘Arey yaar, kisko hero ke role mein cast kar diya (Hey, why did you cast this guy as a hero?),’. However, Chhabra praises Kaushal’s charm, hard work, talent, honesty, and sincerity, which ultimately silenced the skeptics. He also acknowledges that actors like Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana have similarly impressed with their dedication and perseverance in the industry.
Vicky Kaushal started his career as an assistant to director Anurag Kashyap on the crime film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur‘ (2012). He made his acting debut in the comedy film ‘Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana,’ which was co-produced by Kashyap. Kaushal gained significant acclaim for his performance in ‘Masaan.’ His career breakthrough came with Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ (2016), where he portrayed a morally ambiguous police officer.
