After making controversial comments Telangana Minister Konda Surekha has been summoned by a Hyderabad court to appear on December 12 in response to a criminal defamation complaint filed by actor Nagarjuna. The complaint follows from remarks made by Surekha that Nagarjuna’s claims were defamatory towards him and his family, particularly involving his son, Naga Chaitanya, and his ex-wife, Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
According to a PTI report, the Special Judicial First Class Magistrate issued the summons under section 356 (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Konda Surekha stirred controversy in October when she made comments linking the divorce of Naga Chaitanya and Samantha to political figures, specifically alleging that BRS leader KT Rama Rao was involved in the breakdown of their marriage. Her statements suggested that he had used manipulative tactics against actresses, which led to outrage across political and film circles.
Following the backlash, Surekha retracted her comments but not before Nagarjuna filed his defamation lawsuit, claiming that her words had harmed his family’s reputation.Nagarjuna’s family has been vocal against the minister’s comments, with both Naga Chaitanya and Samantha clarifying that their divorce was a mutual decision. The situation escalated further as fellow actors and stars from the Telugu film fraternity voiced their opinions on the matter standing in unison condemning the minister’s statement.
Interestingly, Konda Surekha’s court summons comes just days before Naga Chaitanya is set to marry actress Sobhita Dhulipala on December 4.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Nagarjuna will be seen in the next upcoming big projects including Dhanush starrer Kubera and Rajinikanth’s ‘Coolie’.
