No central minister from Marathawada now as Karad loses his berth | India News – Times of India

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The Marathwada region, which earlier had two central ministers, now has none.
BJP functionary Bhagwat Karad has failed to find space in the council of ministers of the new NDA govt led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Karad, an OBC politician, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and later offered the ministerial berth in July 2021.Karad, who was neither an MLA nor an MP before directly becoming a central minister, was believed to have been elevated in the party after Pankaja Munde, another senior OBC leader, was defeated in the 2019 assembly election from Parli.
In the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, BJP’s Raosaheb Danve — who was a Union minister of state during the first and second terms of Modi govt — lost from Jalna. As a result, Marathwada is now left with no minister in centre govt.
According to a section of political observers, BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Ashok Chavan may have secured a ministerial berth, but the party’s loss in Nanded and three other Lok Sabha seats in Marathwada affected the prospects of the former Maharashtra chief minister.
Barring the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat, NDA lost all seven seats in Marathwada with BJP losing all four seats it contested. Newly elected Aurangabad MP Sandipan Bhumare’s name was not put in the race for a ministerial berth by the Shiv Sena camp as this is his first term as a member of the Lok Sabha and there are other experienced party politicians in contention.
Speaking to reporters in Delhi, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said Maharashtra may find consideration during the expansion of the Union cabinet in future.
