VIJAYAWADA: TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, set to be CM of Andhra Pradesh for a fourth time Wednesday, is busy finalising names for the state cabinet, with likely berths for his son and party’s general secretary Nara Lokesh and ally Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan.
With Jana Sena and BJP also joining the cabinet, Naidu is working on the number of positions to be given to the allies and selecting candidates to balance regional and social equations.
A day before Naidu’s swearing-in, a crucial NDA meeting will take place Tuesday to declare him the CM candidate. All elected MLAs of TDP, Jana Sena, and BJP will attend the meeting in Vijayawada. Naidu’s name will be formally proposed by elected members of NDA, followed by a resolution submitted to the governor.
As NDA partners won 164 of 175 seats, competition for cabinet positions is high among all three parties. With maximum limit for cabinet positions being 26, including the CM, Naidu is working to accommodate party seniors and allies.
Sources said Jana Sena, which won all 21 seats it contested, is likely to get four to five cabinet berths. While names of Pawan Kalyan and Nadendla Manohar are confirmed, the Kalyan is likely to choose his candidates from backward class, SC, and Kapu communities to balance social equations.
For its part, BJP is likely to get one or two positions in the cabinet. The names of Sujana Chowdary and Vishnu Raju are being considered from BJP.
