‘People were screaming’: Passengers recount horror on turbulence-hit Qatar Airways flight – Times of India

A Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Dublin encountered severe turbulence, causing significant distress among passengers and crew. The incident occurred as the aircraft was en route to its destination, leading to a chaotic scene on board.
The Qatar Airways flight, QR017, encountered turbulence while flying over Turkey on its journey from Doha to Dublin on Sunday, resulting in injuries to twelve individuals onboard, as reported by airport authorities. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, managed to land safely at its scheduled time.
Dublin Airport released a statement saying that “six passengers and six crew” had reported injuries due to the turbulence experienced during the flight.Eight of the twelve injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical attention and treatment.
As per a Daily Mail report, the turbulence hit without warning, throwing items and people around the cabin. “It was the most terrifying experience of my life,” said one passenger. “People were screaming, and it felt like the plane was dropping out of the sky.”
“It was so scary… I am not in a hurry to get back on a plane I can tell you,” another passenger said.
Flight attendants were also affected by the sudden turbulence, struggling to maintain their balance and assist passengers. “The crew did their best to calm everyone down, but it was a very scary situation,” another passenger recounted.
The incident has raised questions about the predictability and management of turbulence during flights. While modern aircraft are designed to handle severe turbulence, the experience can still be frightening for those on board.
Qatar Airways has assured passengers that a thorough investigation will be conducted to understand the causes of the turbulence and to prevent similar incidents in the future. The airline also extended its apologies to all affected passengers for the distress caused by the event.
The incident comes five days after a British man died of a suspected heart attack and dozens of people were injured when a Singapore Airlines flight from London hit severe turbulence.
While turbulence-related fatalities are rare, injuries have piled up over the years. Some meteorologists and aviation analysts note that reports of turbulence encounters also have been increasing and point to the potential impacts that climate change may have on flying conditions.
