PM has already indicated India’s willingness to play constructive role: MEA on Russia-Ukraine conflict – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Ministry of External Affairs on Friday said that India has been advocating for peace in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict adding that timing and manner of initiating peace talks rests solely with the two parties involved in the conflict.
“PM has already indicated India’s willingness to play a constructive role in the interest of peace. However, it is too early to comment on specific modalities and pathways at this stage,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
“The decision as to when and how to commence peace talks is the prerogative of the two parties to the conflict,” he added.
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, focusing on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
“Exchanged perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and my insights from the recent visit to Ukraine. Reiterated India’s firm commitment to support an early, abiding and peaceful resolution of the conflict,” PM Modi said in a post on X on Tuesday.

On his recent visit to Ukraine, PM Modi had reiterated New Delhi’s position and asserted that India has not been neutral and was always on the side of peace.
“We were not neutral from day one, we have taken a side, and we stand firmly for peace,” PM Modi said.
