PM Modi chairs review meets on heatwave, monsoon progress | India News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: Two days ahead of election results which he expects will give him another mandate to govern for the next five years, PM Narendra Modi had a packed schedule on Sunday, which included presiding over seven meetings covering various ministries as he reviewed preparations in the wake of the heat wave and also preparedness for onset of monsoon.
Govt sources said that PM instructed officials to continue proper drills for preventing and handling incidents of fire regularly. PM was informed that the monsoon is likely to be normal and above normal in most parts of the country and below normal in parts of peninsular India.
One of the key sessions involved an extensive review of the new govt’s 100-day agenda, set to be executed following the LS election results, reflecting the confidence of PM that the public mandate would be in his favour for the third time in a row.
As per IMD forecasts, the heat wave is likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. This year, the monsoon is likely to be normal and above normal in most parts of the country and below normal in parts of peninsular India. Officials briefed PM in this regard.
PM was informed about the usefulness of the “van agni” portal in the timely identification of forest fires and their management. Modi said regular drills for the maintenance of firelines in forests and productive utilisation of biomass must be planned.
The principal secretary to the PM, cabinet secretary, home secretary, secretary, ministry of earth sciences, DG NDRF and member secretary, NDMA along with other senior officials from PMO and concerned ministries were also present in the meeting.
In another meeting, PM was briefed about the impact of the cyclone on affected states. The loss of human lives and damage to houses and properties due to landslides and floods in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura was also discussed. NDRF teams have been deployed as per needs. The teams have carried out evacuation, airlifting and road clearance operations. During the meeting, it was mentioned that the ministry of home affairs is in regular touch with the state govs.
