PM Modi to inaugurate major infrastructure projects in Mumbai today | India News – Times of India



MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be at NESCO in Goregaon today evening to conduct ground breaking ceremony for city’s few crucial infrastructure works including BMC’s Mulund Goregaon Link Road (GMLR) tunnel works and the Borivali Thane tunnel construction by the MMRDA.
The GMLR twin tunnels are each proposed to be 4.7 km long and 45.70 meter wide under the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.This twin tunnel will be at a depth of 20 to 160 meters underground. Both tunnels will be connected at a distance of 300 m each. They will be excavated by a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) of about 14.2 m diameter.
They are proposed to include facilities like advance light system, ventilation system, fire protection system, CCTV, control room etc. will be provided in the tunnel.
BMC also said that provisions of various utility channels under the tunnels are included in the scope of the project.
“Construction of the tunnels will be done without disturbing the flora & fauna in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park as well as the area of Aarey, Vihar and Tulsi Lake. No land acquisition was required in the National Park for the project. the project will decrease carbon emission will by about 22,400 tons every year and eventually will help Mumbaikars in saving their travel time and fuel,” said a civic official.
