MUMBAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged the media to expand its global influence by extending its social media outreach to international languages recognised by the UN. He also sought its cooperation to instill “a sense of duty among citizens” as the country celebrates 75th anniversary of the Constitution.
PM Modi said role of newspapers is crucial to journey of Viksit Bharat.”Media is not a mute spectator to the happenings in the country. It is also responsible for bringing about change and granting direction. Citizens of a nation who gain confidence in their capabilities begin to achieve new heights of success. This is happening in India today,” he said.
The PM spoke after he inaugurated the B wing of the INS Towers (Indian Newspaper Society) in Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The 14-storey structure comprises 1.25 lakh sq-ft of space which houses the offices of several newspapers. INS is an 85-year-old institution that was established in 1939. It has 800 members on its rolls.
The PM unveiled a plaque bearing his name at the entrance. CM Eknath Shinde, deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar and governor Ramesh Bais joined him upon the dais.
Lauding the efforts of INS, Modi said, “INS came into existence well before Independence and its work has benefited many people.”
PM said, “Media makes people aware of their rights and their own capability. It deserves credit for promoting govt’s programmes like Digital India.”
