‘PM Modi was lying’: Congress chief Kharge on why opposition walked out from Rajya Sabha | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said that the opposition MPs staged a walkout from Rajya Sabha because they were not allowed to speak in the Parliament during Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s speech.
Kharge alleged that the Prime Minister was dishonest and asserted that the BJP-RSS, Jan Sangh, and their political forerunners had strongly opposed the Indian Constitution. He accused the RSS, the BJP’s ideological mentor, of being against the Constitution. To support his claim, the Congress leader cited an article from the RSS publication “Organiser” dated November 30, 1950, which allegedly showed the organization’s opposition to the Constitution, stating that it lacked anything Indian.
“INDIA parties walked out of Rajya Sabha because PM Modi was lying. He claims that we are against the Constitution, but the TRUTH is that BJP-RSS, Jan Sangh and their political forefathers had fiercely opposed the Constitution of India. They had burnt the effigies of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru at that time. This is was a shameful thing and an affront to Democratic values,” Kharge said in a post on X.
“The truth is that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had given the credit of drafting the Constitution to the Congress party,” he added.

The opposition MPs of the INDIA bloc staged a walkout as Prime Minister was replying to the debate on the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address in the Rajya Sabha today.
The opposition MPs claimed that Mallikarjun Kharge was not given an opportunity to speak. In protest, they engaged in sloganeering against the Prime Minister and left the House.
Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar strongly criticized the actions of the INDIA bloc MPs, accusing them of challenging and outraging the spirit of the Constitution, as well as disregarding their oath of office. He stated, “The opposition members have challenged the Constitution, outraged the spirit of the Constitution, and disregarded the oath they took”.
Dhankhar also claimed that LoP Kharge had insulted his oath of office by participating in the walkout, saying, “Khargeji insulted oath of the office through the walkout. They (opposition MPs) have made a mockery of the Constitution. I hope they introspect”.
Dhankhar asserted that LoP Kharge had been given sufficient time to speak without interruption. He condemned the walkout, stating that it was the greatest insult to the Indian Constitution. “There can be no bigger insult to the Constitution of India than this…I condemn their conduct…It is an occasion where they have challenged the Indian Constitution. They outraged the spirit of the Indian Constitution, they disregarded the oath they had undertaken…Indian Constitution is not something to hold in your hands, it is the book to way of life. I hope that they will self-introspect and walk that path of duty”, he said.
Prime Minister Modi also criticized the opposition MPs, claiming that they lack the courage to face the truth. He stated, “The country is watching that those who spread lies do not have the strength to hear the truth. Those who do not dare to face the truth, do not dare to listen to the answers to questions that were raised in these discussions. They are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House”.
