NEW DELHI: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Smriti Irani and Anurag Thakur were among the sitting ministers who have not found place in Modi 3.0 government even as Prime Minister Modi has retained most of his top ministers from the previous government.
A total of 71 ministers took oath along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of seven heads of state. This included 30 Cabinet ministers, 5 ministers of state (MoS) with independent charge and 36 ministers of state (MoS).
Smriti Irani, who had held various ministries in the last two Modi-led governments, was not included in the new ministry after she lost elections in Amethi this time to Congress candidate K L Sharma. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who was a minister in the last Cabinet and was a member of Rajya Sabha, also lost the elections to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.
While these two BJP leaders who lost were kept out, a Congress turncoat from Punjab – former MP Ravneet Singh Bittu – who contested on BJP ticket and lost from Ludhiana, was included in the council of ministers.
Anurag Thakur won the elections from Himachal Pradesh, but did not find a place in the new council of ministers.
