NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Thursday rejected the plea seeking disqualification of PM Narendra Modi‘s candidature from contesting 2024 Lok Sabha elections calling the allegations labelled against him “vague, unsubstantiated and reckless”.
“Perusal of the petition reveals that the same is replete with vague, unsubstantiated and reckless allegations. Not only are the pleadings inchoate but the tenor of the same is demonstrative of the fact that the petition is tainted with malafide and oblique motives,” the high court noted.
Captain Deepak Kumar filed a plea alleging that Modi and his allies planned the deadly accident of an Air India flight in 2018, which the petitioner piloted, in an attempt to undermine national security.
The petition additionally sought that Union home minister Amit Shah and Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia’s candidacies be cancelled.
The prime minister, according to the plea, allegedly made a “false” oath in front of the returning officer to demonstrate his eligibility to run for office.
Additionally, the petitioner claimed that PM Modi was accused of destroying evidence by actively pushing the sale of Air India Limited, which revoked his pilot’s license and ratings through the distortion of his service records.
Justice Sachin Datta said that the plea was tainted with dishonest and oblique objectives and was rejected by the court.
