Security forces kill one terrorist in Jammu & Kashmir's Srinagar; encounter under way

NEW DELHI: The security forces on Tuesday killed one terrorist after an encounter broke out in Jammu and Kashmir’s Dachigam forest.
According to Jammu and Kashmir Police, a joint operation was launched with Indian army based on specific inputs in the upper mountain belts of the Harwan area of Srinagar.

Taking to X, Chinar corps of the army said, “On 02 Dec 2024, based on specific intelligence input, a Joint Operation was launched by Indian army and Jammu and Kashmir Police at Harwan, Srinagar. During search initial contact was established.”
According to officials, the area has been cordoned off where terrorists are believed to be hiding. All roads going towards the encounter site have been sealed by police.
“These firing exchanges started during a CASO (Cordon and Search Operation) launched by the security forces after specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area,” an official said.
“The cordon around the area where terrorists are believed to be hiding has been tightened. The operation was resumed with the first light on Tuesday morning,” he added.
Security forces have increased operations against the terrorists in the recent past following several attacks carried out by the terrorists.
Earlier on November 23, Baramulla Police, in a joint operation with security forces, busted a terror hideout in the Kunzer area of Baramulla district.
According to the police, based on credible leads generated during the investigation, a joint operation was conducted. During the search operation, the police recovered arms and ammunition, and it also destroyed the hideout, thwarted any possible untoward incident, and scuttled the nefarious plans of terrorist outfits to derail peace and harmony in the Kashmir Valley.
