Shamli farmers warn of protest amid stray cattle menace, unpaid sugarcane dues; Power department alleges harassment | India News – Times of India

SHAMLI: Farmers in Shamli on Tuesday warned district administration of protest over multiple issues including perpetual damage to crops by stray cattle, non-payment of sugarcane dues by mills, and alleged harassment by electricity department.
District president of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) issued a memorandum to district magistrate Kalendra Malik warning the administration that if their problems are not solved, farmers will hit the road in protest.
Farmers in the region said stray animals are destroying their crops. Despite last year’s outstanding dues from Shamli sugar mill remaining unpaid, farmers continue to face harassment from the power department.
The DM said it would resolve farmers’ issues. However, Baba Shyam Singh, a farmer thinker from prominent Gathwala Khap present at the scene, said farmers are on the brink of complete ruin, yet officials are merely engaging in token gestures, attempting to deceive them.
