“This film gave me the confidence to perform the way I did,” Sharvari shared in an exclusive conversation with ETimes. “I didn’t have inhibitions when I performed in Veda, that role is completely de-glamorous, I’ve cut my hair into a boy cut for the last bit of the role.So I think that what happened was when people appreciated my work, I got the confidence of understanding that maybe I can do such films as well. And also the fact that I got to work with Nikhil Adwani for me was a very very big deal because he is an incredible director, I learnt every day on a film set. So for me, even if the film may not have done very well at the box office, does not mean that I have not gained from it.”
Emphasizing how the role pushed her boundaries as an actor, Sharvari added, “It has given me immense confidence and it has given me a lot of learnings also, as an actor on set, to be able to change some scenes, do things differently, learn a language like Rajasthani, to be able to try and understand the psyche of a certain character. So I think that I still am a big gainer at the end of the day. So that’s how I look at it.”
When asked if the challenging nature of her character weighed on her, Sharvari admitted, “Yes, on some days it did. Because there were some very difficult scenes actually and on some days I used to actually feel very very emotional after doing those scenes because as a human, when you even hear a story about someone going through something like that, you will feel a little wound, you will get emotionally upset. So I think when I was performing between action and cut, I think as an actor you want to forget that you are performing. So I used to put myself in that uncomfortable situation. So yeah, it definitely did weigh on me.”

She added, “But at the end of the day, the story of the girl is so brave and so courageous that that’s something that I always took away from it. And many times I got myself thinking in that journey that, you know, if I had a roadblock in my life, I used to sometimes think and say that, you know, what would Veda do? You know, and it really helped me. Sometimes you read books, watch films, read a real-life story and get inspired. And for me, Veda’s story was inspiring. And I feel like I performed it and I saw it so closely that it feels a lot like mine. And which is why sometimes I do put myself in that and I say that, okay, what would she do? And I think that she always comes out more courageous.”
For Sharvari, Vedaa will always be an inspiring and significant part of her journey as an actor.
