BENGALURU/SHIVAMOGGA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Hassan sleaze videos allegedly invovling Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, Tuesday arrested two men – Naveen Gowda and Chetan – in their 30s and both from Sakaleshpur in Hassan. They were accused of leaking the sleaze videos.
The arrests were made in the morning when the two had come to the high court, with an intention to file anticipatory bail petitions.Earlier, they had made a futile attempt to secure anticipatory bail from Hassan court.
According to a senior police officer, Naveen Gowda had a few months back posted on his Facebook page ‘Countdown begins for release of tapes (videos),’ indicating that they were to release the sleaze videos.
“We strongly suspect that Naveen Gowda distributed the sleaze videos through social media and WhatsApp. Chetan is the one who distributed the pen drives containing these videos,” he said.
Both will be produced before a court in Hassan on Wednesday, seeking custody of SIT.
Bhavani’s anticipatory bail adjourned
A special court for elected representatives in city adjourned to Wednesday the anticipatory bail petition of Bhavani Revanna, to Wednesday. Saying police may arrest her in a kidnap case, wherein her husband Revanna is already arrested. The court said it can continue the hearing after SIT files its objection.
‘Hassan Chalo plan is on’
Despite Prajwal’s announcement that he will appear before the SIT on May 31, progressive thinkers and social workers have decided to stage ‘Hassan Chalo’ agitation as planned.
Advocate KP Sripal told reporters here on Tuesday, he said delay on the part of the state and the central govts in initiating inquiry into the sex scandal, allegedly involving Prajwal, prompted them to stage Hassan Chalo protest in Hassan on May 30.
The protest march has garnered support from various progressive unions, including writers, thinkers, activists, retired judges, advocates, women, farmers, and senior journalists. Activists will simultaneously stage protests in their respective districts to support the cause.
Sripal, who has appeared in over 200 Pocso cases, criticised the SIT for the delay in the inquiry. He also emphasised the strictness of the law, and the fact that the accused is released after a trial.
Expressing concern over the alleged harassment of minors in this case, Sripal questioned as to why laws ensuring women’s safety are not being applied to Prajwal and his father, despite a series of rape allegations against them.
Sripal also demanded the arrest of all those involved in the case.
