NEW DELHI: A court on Thursday sentenced senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan to 10 years of imprisonment in connection with a 2016 case related to forced eviction, looting, and intimidation of inhabitants of Rampur’s Dungarpur colony during the SP government’s regime. A fine of Rs 14 lakh was also imposed on Khan.
The second accused Barkat Ali was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment with a total of Rs 6 lakhs fine.
This came a day after the Rampur MP/MLA court found him guilty in the case.
“Azam Khan was convicted in a matter yesterday and the quantum of sentence was pronounced today. He has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment,” district government advocate of MP/MLA court, Seema Singh Rana said
“He has been sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment. He has also been penalised with a total amount of Rs 14 Lakhs”, she added.
In December 2016, Abrar, the victim, lodged a complaint against Khan and retired circle officer Barkat Ali, claiming that they forcibly entered his house, damaged the property and beat him up to get him to vacate the place.
