Tamil Nadu Rain School Holiday: IMD issues heavy rainfall alert for several districts including Chennai, are schools closed today? – Times of India

Tamil Nadu Rain School Holiday: Chennai and surrounding areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall on Wednesday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for the city and eleven other districts. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), heavy rain is likely to continue in Chennai and nearby areas through Friday.
The IMD has forecasted isolated heavy showers in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Villuppuram, as well as in Puducherry and Karaikal districts of Tamil Nadu.
Local reports indicate that district collectors in several affected areas have declared a school holiday for November 13, 2024, in response to the heavy rainfall. Unverified reports suggest closures in districts such as Cuddalore, Karaikal, Mayiladuthurai, Ariyalur, and Perambalur following persistent downpours on November 12 and early on November 13.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for multiple districts, with warnings covering 12 districts on November 12, 17 districts on November 13, 27 districts on November 14, and 25 districts on November 15. This weather activity is attributed to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which is expected to move towards Tamil Nadu or Sri Lanka in the coming days.
