NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh deputy CM Brajesh Pathak on Thursday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of trying to “incite people” and “spread anarchy” in the state after the Lok Sabha leader of the opposition visited Hathras to meet the family of a Dalit woman who died allegedly after being gangraped in September 2020.
Pathak said Rahul Gandhi was a “confused” leader who did not know what to do and suggested that the Congress scion should go to ‘Vipassana’ (meditation) centre to figure out what needed to be done.
“(Rahul) Gandhi is confused. He has no idea what he will say and when. Sometimes he thinks of visiting Sambhal, sometimes Aligarh or Hathras. He is totally derailed and confused,” Pathak was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The UP deputy CM further said: “Rahul Gandhi does not know anything. The Hathras incident has been investigated by the CBI and the case is pending in the court. He is completely frustrated and a victim of mental disorder.”
“He (Rahul Gandhi) does not know what to do. His vehicle has been derailed. He wants to incite people and ignite the fire of anarchy and riots in Uttar Pradesh. The people of Uttar Pradesh will never accept this,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi reached Bool Garhi in Hathras around 11.15 am amid tight deployment around the village in the Chandpa area.
The Congress leader spent around 35 minutes with the family at their home and interacted with them. He left without speaking to a waiting group of reporters who had gathered in the village for his visit.
Congress also shared a letter allegedly written by Hathras rape victim’s father after which Rahul Gandhi paid a visit to the family.
“The victim’s family of Hathras had written a letter to the Leader of Opposition Mr. @RahulGandhi demanding justice. After this letter, Mr Rahul Gandhi came to meet the victim’s family today,” the party said, sharing the letter.
