Turbulence hits Qatar Airways flight to Dublin, 12 injured – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Around 12 people were injured while traveling on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Ireland, Dublin Airport said on Sunday. The injuries occurred during a bout of turbulence, however, the plane landed safely and as per the scheduled time, the airport said.
Flight QR017, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, landed shortly before 1 p.m. in Dublin time, according to the airport.
“Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including Airport Police and our Fire and Rescue department, due to 6 passengers and 6 crew [12 total] on board reporting injuries after the aircraft experienced turbulence while airborne over Turkey,” Dublin Airport said in a statement.
The incident comes just five days after a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore had to make an emergency landing in Bangkok. The turbulence was severe, resulting in the death of a 73-year-old British man and causing 20 others to be in intensive care.
According to a 2021 study by the US National Transportation Safety Board, turbulence-related airline accidents are identified as the most common type.
From 2009 through 2018, the US agency discovered that turbulence was responsible for over a third of the reported airline accidents. Most of these incidents led to one or more serious injuries, but there was no damage to the aircraft.
