UPPSC Revised exam dates: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has revised the schedule for the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) Preliminary Examination 2024, announcing that the exam will now be conducted on December 22, 2024.
Originally planned as a two-day event on December 7 and 8, the exam will now take place in two shifts on a single day to address concerns raised by aspirants. The first shift will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, while the second shift will run from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
UPPSC PCS Prelims Exam 2024: Key Details
This change follows significant backlash from candidates opposing the two-day format and the associated normalisation process used to standardise scores across multiple shifts. Aspirants strongly advocated for a “one day, one exam” approach, prompting the commission to revise its earlier decision.
Additionally, logistical challenges, such as a shortage of examination centers to accommodate the large number of candidates, had initially led to the plan for a multi-shift exam.
The PCS prelims examination includes two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper-I and CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) Paper-II, conducted on the same day with a total duration of four hours. Both papers play a crucial role in determining eligibility for the next stages of the selection process.
This is not the first instance of changes to the PCS exam schedule in 2024. Earlier, the examination had been postponed twice for administrative reasons. It was initially slated for March 17, later rescheduled to October 27, and subsequently delayed again. These adjustments were made amidst concerns regarding paper leaks and the cancellation of other recruitment exams in the state.
