Vijay Thalapathy’s ‘GOAT’, Amaran, Rajinikanth’s ‘Vettaiyaan’: Biggest Tamil grossers of 2024! | Tamil Movie News – Times of India

Unlike Hindi or Telugu Cinema, Tamil Cinema has been through a very lean year with very few films being able to draw in the audiences and some of them had the biggest screen gods. Thalapathy Vijay’s penultimate film The Greatest of All Time has turned out to be the biggest hit of the year with a box office collection of over Rs 252 crore. And the second spot has been taken by Rajkumar Periasamy’s Amaran starring Sivakartikeyan and Sai Pallavi, the film is based on the life of Major Mukund Vardarajan and his wife Indhu.

The film in the first 18 days has minted more than Rs 189 crore and is expected to cross Rs 200 crore by the end of the week. In fact, GOAT had minted Rs 15.8 crore in its third week, while Amaran had clocked in Rs 17.75 crore in the third weekend. And going by the lukewarm response to Suriya’s Kanguva which is crossed Rs 50 crore mark only on Sunday, Amaran is destined to have an extended run till the release of Allu Arjun, Sukumar and Rashmika Mandanna’s Pushpa 2: The Rule on December 5.
In the third spot is Superstar Rajinikath’s latest film Vettaiyan, post the success of Jailer this one had a lot of expectations running on it. But the film failed to draw in big numbers despite the presence of Thalaiva and Amitabh Bachchan who came together after 32 years. The film in India made nearly Rs 147 crore. And on the fourth spot is Dhanush’s directorial venture Raayan, with its emotional storyline, good action and major twists the film was able to mint nearly Rs 95 crore.
Kamal Haasan’s Indian 2 has been one of the biggest disappointments of the year, though the was able to make Rs 81 crore at the box office but the response for the film was extremely dull, despite it being a sequel to a very successful film which released in 1996. The film drew a lot of negative comments from critics and fans and this Shankar film which was supposed to have a third part will now be releasing on OTT directly .
