ITANAGAR: Tragedy struck a school in Arunachal Pradesh Saturday morning when an overhead water tank collapsed leaving three students dead, two others critically injured, and one with minor injuries. The accident occurred around 9am when the students were revising for an exam near the tank, said SP Mihin Gambo.
Preliminary findings suggests the water tank of St Alphonsa School at Model village in Naharlagun exceeded its capacity. The deceased, all Class IX students, were aged between 14 and 15. They have been identified as Ekam Bagang, Rei Dol, and Marsu Dubi.
Police have detained the school principal, owner, and four wardens. An FIR has been filed and investigations are on to determine the exact cause of the collapse. Parents of victims are demanding that the school be closed permanently.
