‘We are very sorry for traumatic experience’: Singapore Airlines CEO
NEW DELHI: In response to the tragic incident involving a Singapore Airlines flight, CEO Goh Choon Phong released a video message on Wednesday, extending apologies to all affected by the traumatic experience.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when Singapore Airlines flight SQ321, en route from London’s Heathrow Airport to Singapore, encountered severe turbulence, prompting an emergency landing in Bangkok.The turbulence resulted in one fatality and numerous injuries among the 211 passengers and 18 crew members onboard the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Expressing profound condolences, CEO Goh Choon Phong conveyed sympathy to the family and loved ones of the deceased. “We are deeply saddened by this incident. It has resulted in one confirmed fatality and multiple injuries. On behalf of Singapore Airlines, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We are very sorry for the traumatic experience that everyone on board SQ321 went through,” Phong stated.
Assuring assistance to passengers and crew, Phong emphasized that their priority is to provide all necessary support. Singapore Airlines promptly dispatched a team to Bangkok to assist affected individuals on the ground.
A relief flight carrying 143 passengers and crew members who were fit to travel arrived in Singapore earlier this morning. However, 79 passengers and six crew members, including those receiving medical care, remain in Bangkok along with their family members.
Phong reaffirmed Singapore Airlines’ commitment to extending full support to those affected and pledged cooperation with authorities in ongoing investigations. “Singapore Airlines will extend all possible support to them. We are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities on the investigations,” he reiterated.
