‘We need more people’: Trump demands extra security in call to Biden after assassination attempt – Times of India

Former President Donald Trump, during a call with President Joe Biden, asked for a larger security detail due to the large crowds at his events, following the apparent assassination attempt on Sunday.
“We need more people on my detail because we have 50-60,000 people showing up to events,” Trump said in a livestreamed chat on X. He also praised Biden’s response, saying, “He couldn’t have been nicer,” and thanked him for his concern.
Earlier, Biden had commended the Secret Service for their vigilance and confirmed that the necessary resources would be provided to ensure Trump’s continued safety.
“I have been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today,” Biden said. “A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe.”
Trump during the livestream also took a shot at Kamala Harris claiming that if she wins the upcoming US elections she will be “very bad” for the United States. He once again called Kamala a Marxist, a claim which he made numerous times during the debate with the vice president.
“She’d be very bad for the country. We have to save our country. We can’t play games or we can’t have a Marxist communist president,” Trump said.

The attempted assassination occurred near Trump’s golf club in West Palm Beach. The FBI is treating the incident as a potential assassination attempt. The suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, faces charges for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and for having a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Routh will remain in custody until his detention hearing on September 23 and his arraignment on September 30.
A Secret Service agent confronted Routh after spotting a rifle barrel. The suspect was detained 300-500 yards away from Trump.
This is the second assassination attempt on Trump during his current presidential campaign. The first occurred at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
