What CJI DY Chandrachud said after casting his vote | India News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud along with his wife Kalpana Das cast thier vote in Delhi on Saturday.
Following his participation in the democratic process, the CJI remarked, “Today I fulfilled my duty as a citizen by casting my vote.”
He further emphasized the significance of this civic responsibility, stating, “I had earlier also said that this is a major responsibility of every citizen.”
CJI had made it just in time to cast his vote.He was in Tashkent for a meeting of Chief Justices of SCO member states, had a bilateral meeting with his counterpart Chief Justice of Uzbekistan, Mr. Bakhtiyar Islamov and discussed possibilities of bilateral cooperation between the two Institutions.
Earlier, the CJI had urged citizens not to miss the opportunity to vote in the general elections, saying that it is one of the “foremost duties” in a constitutional democracy.
In a video message for the Election Commission‘s ‘My Vote My Voice’ mission for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Justice Chandrachud said, “We are citizens of the world’s largest democracy, which is our country.”
“The Constitution gives us a multitude of rights as citizens but it also expects that each of us performs the duty, which is cast upon us. And one of the foremost duties of citizenship is to cast a vote in a constitutional democracy,” he said.
“I will request every one of you please do not miss this opportunity to vote responsibly as citizens of our great motherland. Five minutes, every five years for our nation. It’s doable, isn’t it? Let’s vote with pride. My vote, my voice,” the CJI said.
Voting for the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections is underway for eight seats each in Bihar and Bengal, seven in Delhi, ten in Haryana, four in Jharkhand, fourteen in Uttar Pradesh, and the final seat in Jammu & Kashmir’s Anantnag-Rajouri constituency, where polling was rescheduled from the third to the sixth phase.
