Donald Trump picked JD Vance as his running mate for the presidential election Monday. Minutes after it was announced, Usha Chilukuri Vance, JD’s wife, resigned from her job as a corporate litigator for law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson. According to SFGate, Usha’s online bio disappeared from the firm’s website minutes after the announcement. And the company confirmed that she was leaving.
“Usha has informed us she has decided to leave the firm.Usha has been an excellent lawyer and colleague, and we thank her for her years of work and wish her the best in her future career,” the company said.
“In light of today’s news, I have resigned from my position at Munger, Tolles & Olson to focus on caring for our family. I am forever grateful for the opportunities I’ve had at Munger and for the excellent colleagues and friends I’ve worked with over the years,” Usha said in a separate statement.
Why Usha Chilukuri left her job
In her statement, she said she would like to focus in caring for the family but speculations are rife that the decision was because Vance’s political career as Donald Trump would not like a VP pick who is hugely talked about in mainstream media. Questions are also being raised as to whether there was any conflict of interest.
Usha Chilukuri Vance is a registered Democrat but has never been vocal politically.
Usha completed her Bachelor’s in History from Yale University, earned MPhil in Early Modern History from University of Columbia and a Juris Doctor degree in Law from Yale Law School. In her professional career, she clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh of the US Supreme Court and has worked with several prestigious law firms.
