When Oprah Winfrey was ‘in LOVE’ with Trump: Republicans dig dirt and letter after DNC speech – Times of India

Oprah Winfrey came under severe MAGA attack after she endorsed Kamala Harris in her surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday and tore into Donald Trump — without naming him. Old videos, letter of Oprah praising Donald Trump surfaced as Republicans reminded people that Oprah just changed her color — she was once a huge Trump fan.
“Decency and respect are on the ballot in 2024. And just plain common sense — common sense tells you that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz can give us decency and respect,” Oprah said coming down heavily on Donald Trump’s running mate JD Vance’s ‘childless cat ladies’ remark.
The Trump campaign was quick to put out on social media a private handwritten letter that Winfrey sent to Trump in January 2000. The letter was in response to an except Trump sent her from his book The America We Deserve. Trump called her his first choice for vice president. “Too bad we’re not running for office. What A TEAM!” Oprah wrote in that letter — the team being Donald Trump and Oprah.
“Donald — I reviewed the book excerpt. I have to tell you, your comments made me a little weepy. It’s one thing to try and live a life of integrity — still another to have people like yourself notice. Thank you,” Oprah wrote in the letter.

The letter found a place in Letters to Trump — a book that Donald Trump wrote later but Trump admitted that once he announced for President, Oprah Winfrey never spoke to him again.
The video of Donald Trump speaking at Oprah’s show was also shared with Republicans claiming that she admired Donald Trump before “new programing was installed into her brain”.
Oprah’s past endorsements
Oprah Winfrey’s first major political endorsement was Barack Obama in 2008. Oprah then endorsed Clinton in 2016 against Donald Trump but did not hit the campaign. She also endorsed Biden in 2020. In 2022, Oprah endorsed Jon Fetterman in his Senate race. But this was her political convention debut as Oprah spoke at the DNC and praised Kamala Harris- Tim Walz.
