Cavill’s few-second-long cameo took the fandom by storm.Humorously dubbed ‘Cavillrine’ by fans, the actor was seen pulling out the claws for a fight scene with Deadpool, punching him straight into another timeline. This unexpected appearance has led to rampant speculation about Cavill’s future in the MCU, particularly in the context of the Russo Brothers‘ ‘Secret Wars’, a film many expect to feature multiple variants and cross-universe cameos.
A viral fan-theory read, “I think Henry Cavill’s the earth 616 Wolverine. They put his cameo to check how the audience will react and now we know the response is unanimously positive for Cavillrine.”
In the movie, Deadpool and Wolverine go about trying to save their home in the timeline of Earth-10005, rather than the MCU’s Sacred Timeline, also referred to as Earth-616. However, the film introduces the concept that the events in ‘Logan‘ was part of the same X-Men Universe and his death at the end of the film, caused the slow death of the timeline.
The ambiguity surrounding the timeline extends to ‘Logan’, the 2017 film directed by James Mangold. While Mangold hinted that ‘Logan’ was set in the same canon as the X-Men movies, in 2029,
Hugh Jackman stated that it exists in a slightly ‘different universe’ in terms of timeline and tone.
The inclusion of Henry Cavill as a Wolverine variant, has sparked discussions about his potential long-term involvement with Marvel Studios. If Wolverine is to appear in ‘Secret Wars’, it is likely that Hugh Jackman will reprise his role. However, this does not preclude Cavill from making another cameo appearance, possibly even working alongside Jackman’s Wolverine.
A fan even went ahead to predict, “Watch Marvel give Henry Cavill the brown and yellow Wolverine suit.”
Over the past few years, Cavill has been a popular fan choice to take up the Wolverine mantle after Jackman, alongside actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Taron Egerton.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Disney or Marvel regarding this possibility.
