Will PM Modi meet Donald Trump in US? What MEA said | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The ministry of external affairs (MEA) on Thursday refused to confirm or deny a potential meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the upcoming Quad summit.
When questioned about the possibility of such a meeting during a press conference, foreign secretary Vikram Misri said, “there are many meetings with the Prime Minister right now which we are trying to fix.Right now, I will not be able to tell you about any specific meeting, whether the meeting has been fixed or not.”
“We are looking from all angles as to how much time we have and with whom we can hold meetings. We will keep updating you about the meetings,” he added.
Earlier this week, former President Donald Trump claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be visiting the US to meet with him. During a town hall in Flint, Michigan, Trump referred to Modi as “fantastic” and mentioned their upcoming meeting.
Although the foreign ministry has released PM Modi‘s agenda for the visit, it does not explicitly mention a meeting with Trump. However, the agenda does indicate that the Prime Minister is expected to engage with thought leaders and other key stakeholders involved in the India-US bilateral relationship.
During PM Modi’s visit to the US in 2019, he and Trump exchanged mutual praise at the “Howdy, Modi!” rally in Texas, which was attended by over 50,000 people.
