NEW DELHI: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the global embrace of Yoga on International Day of Yoga. The day was marked with celebrations at the Governor’s house in Uttar Pradesh, where both Governor Anandiben Patel as well as chief minister Adityanath performed various yoga asanas alongside hundreds of participants.
Governor Anandiben Patel addressed the gathering, emphasising the significance of the day.
“International Yoga Day is actually a day for new encouragement. The day encourages us to take pride in our traditions,” she stated.
Chief minister Adityanath, speaking earlier, highlighted the international adoption of yoga.
“We owe this opportunity to our esteemed prime minister whose vision and initiatives have led to nearly 200 countries embracing International Yoga Day. These countries have aligned themselves with our rich Indian heritage, thus honouring and enriching our culture and traditions. There can be no greater tribute to our ancestors, traditions, and heritage than this,” he said.
Adityanath underscored the universal benefits of yoga, stating that it promotes the welfare of all humanity without boundaries.
He remarked, “By embracing yoga and connecting the entire human race, we show true respect for our ancestors and heritage.”
He also noted the role of International Yoga Day in paying homage to India’s traditional practice of yoga.
“The International Yoga Day has become a medium for all of us to express our respect towards this tradition of India,” Adityanath said.
The chief minister described yoga as a holistic practice that unites people physically and mentally.
Reflecting on the sage tradition of India, he said, “Reflecting on the sage tradition of India reveals their profound foresight in connecting society, where they made an innovative attempt to integrate ‘dharma’ with yoga in this way.”
He added that the theme of International Yoga Day, ‘Yoga for all,’ highlights yoga’s inclusivity and its transcendence of various social and temporal barriers.
“My appeal is to incorporate yoga into your daily routine… you will realize that the time you have dedicated to yoga has greatly contributed to your health and longevity, benefiting both your physical and mental well-being. If we continue this practice regularly, we will reap its full benefits,” he urged.
The event began with the national anthem followed by the Raj Bhavan song, with numerous yoga practitioners and instructors taking part in the group yoga session. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also participated in a similar event in Prayagraj.
