NEW DELHI: Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis has shared his thoughts on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction, expressing excitement and uncertainty about the proceedings.
Du Plessis, a seasoned IPL campaigner, has represented franchises like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), and RCB during his illustrious career.
With 145 IPL matches under his belt, Du Plessis has amassed 4,571 runs at an impressive average of 35.99 and a strike rate exceeding 136, showcasing his prowess as a top-order batsman. His highest individual score in the tournament stands at an impressive 96 runs.
Since taking over the captaincy of RCB in 2022, Du Plessis has been a consistent performer, scoring 1,636 runs at an average of 38.05 and a strike rate of nearly 147. He has registered 15 half-centuries in 45 innings, with a top score of 96 runs.
In the previous season, Du Plessis played a pivotal role in RCB’s playoff qualification, contributing 438 runs at an average of 29.20 and a strike rate of 161.62, including four half-centuries, with his best score being 64 runs.
Despite his contributions, the Bengaluru-based franchise did not retain Du Plessis ahead of the IPL 2025 season, opting to retain Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal instead.
Expressing his thoughts on the upcoming mega-auction, Du Plessis acknowledged the unpredictable nature of such events, stating, “You never know with auctions. You never know what’s going to happen, so everyone is excited to see what happens on November 24. I’ve got no idea what’s going to happen, so I’ll be looking.”
The IPL 2025 mega-auction is scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where franchises will bid for players to assemble their squads for the upcoming season.
