Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, actively participated in campaigning for their respective party candidates. The YSRCP campaign emphasized the welfare initiatives it enacted over the past five years, while the NDA focused on criticizing the perceived “failures” of the state government and pledged to offer benefits if elected, along with promises of job creation. Congress party in its manifesto promised granting special category status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh for 10 years.
In the 2019 assembly elections, YSRCP won 151 seats, TDP secured 23 while Janasena could manage only one. Congress and BJP couldn’t secure a single seat in the state elections. As the state awaits the results on June 4, the focus now shifts to the exit polls.
The exit polls for 2019 Assembly election results gave a divided outcome. While some predicted YSRCP would win between 130 and 135 seats, leaving 37-40 seats for TDP, others said the main opposition party would win 112 seats and TDP 59. However, all surveys predicted a poor performance by Janasena.
