NEW DELHI: Suman Kumar from Samastipur district in Bihar made history by claiming all 10 wickets in an innings during the ongoing Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match against Rajasthan.
The Bihar pacer also achieved a remarkable hat-trick in the 36th over, dismissing Mohit Bhagtani, Anas, and Sachin Sharma in succession. This extraordinary feat adds to his impressive tally of 22 wickets so far this season.
This marks the second instance in the ongoing Indian domestic season where a bowler has taken all 10 wickets in an innings. Earlier, Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj achieved the feat in a Ranji Trophy match against Kerala.
Bihar set the tone with a commanding first-innings total of 467, powered by centuries from Dipesh Gupta (183 not out) and Prithvi Raj (128). In response, Rajasthan were skittled out for 182, with Suman Kumar single-handedly dismantling their batting lineup.
Rajasthan ended Day 2 at 70/1. Resuming on Day 3, Suman struck early, removing a key batter after just 12 runs had been added to the overnight score. His magic unfolded in the 36th over, where he claimed a hat-trick, reducing Rajasthan to 82/5.
Suman continued his rampage, taking the remaining five wickets, with Gulab Singh being his 10th victim, wrapping up Rajasthan’s innings at 182. By stumps on Day 3, Rajasthan had recovered to 173/2 in their second innings but still trailed by 112 runs.
Bihar Cricket Association president Rakesh Tiwari congratulated Suman and praised him for his dedication as a young cricketer. He also mentioned how Bihar cricket is growing and players from Bihar are now capable of making a mark at national stage.
“Suman Kumar’s historic achievement of taking all 10 wickets in an innings is a moment of immense pride for Bihar cricket. His dedication and talent are a testament to the growing cricketing ecosystem in Bihar, which is now producing remarkable players capable of making a mark on the national stage,” he said.
