HYDERABAD: Telugu film industry came out Friday in support of Allu Arjun, saying he alone could not be held responsible for the Dec 4 theatre stampede that left a woman dead.
Writer-director Trivikram Srinivas went to Nampally criminal court where Allu was produced after his arrest and spoke in support. Top producer Dil Raju was at Chikkadpally police station after police arrested Allu. He, however, refused to speak to the media.
Actor Nani took to social media, saying: “We are all at fault here. One person is not responsible for this. I wish the kind of enthusiasm govt authorities and media show in anything related to people from cinema was also there for common citizens. Then we can all live in a better society”.
Balakrishna, actor and MLA of Andhra Pradesh’s governing TDP, joined the chorus for Allu, terming his arrest “an act of injustice”. “We will stand with Allu Arjun at this time,” Balakrishna said.
Actor Rahul Ramakrishna dubbed Allu’s arrest “a tactic of the state to lay blame easily on soft targets like film celebrity figures”. “The failure of law and order is not one man’s fault or responsibility. Aren’t cinemas and theatres public spaces? Isn’t an individual allowed to visit one according to their choice? Regardless of the star’s appearance and the tragic incident, why did police let such a huge crowd run amok in the first place?” Ramakrishna wrote.
