The controversy arose over whether Dr Kanodia violated HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), which generally prohibits healthcare providers from sharing protected information without patient consent.
A Reddit post highlighted the issue, stating, “Dr Raj Kanodia was at the wedding – Khloe admitted he did her rhinoplasty but he liked a comment confirming he did Janhvi’s – isn’t this a HIPAA violation?” One user responded, saying, “I think lawyers would argue that a like doesn’t necessarily mean a confirmation. However, the optics are poor.” Another added, “It looks bad on his part. I would never trust a doctor that liked comments like that.”

Some users pointed out that HIPAA also covers non-US citizens treated in the US, but if Janhvi signed a consent form, it wouldn’t be a violation. One fan explained, “Even with HIPAA, if the patient voluntarily discloses the information or agrees to it being disclosed, no violation has occurred. The same principles apply to traditional doctor-patient confidentiality.”
