Hema committee report: Kerala govt forms special team to probe atrocities on women in film industry | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Kerala government on Sunday formed a special team to investigate the atrocities faced by women in Malayalam film industry after the Hema committee report brought to light the details of sexual exploitations.
This came after Congress leader Chennithala accused the Pinarayi Vijayan government of not taking any action into the matter.
“After the publication of the Hema Committee report, the film industry in Kerala is under cloud.I don’t think that everyone working in the film field is guilty but from the inaction by the Kerala government for 4 years, it is very clear that they want to hide something and protect some people involved in it,” Chennithala told ANI.
“My request to the state government is to go ahead with an inquiry. After the revelation of this report, the government wanted to cover up the whole issue. As opposition, we demand to constitute an SIT and probe the whole issue,” he added.
The 235-page report, compiled from testimonies by 51 industry professionals, has exposed issues of exploitation in the Malayalam film industry, including the presence of casting couches and poor working conditions for women.
It further reveals that the Malayalam film industry is dominated by 10 to 15 male producers, directors, and actors who hold significant control over the sector.
