NEW DELHI: A viral video of Devendra Fadnavis, who was elected to lead the Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party on Wednesday, gained widespread attention on social media following the announcement.
Back in 2019, Fadnavis confidently said that he will return and now in 2024, the Maharashtra assembly results have proven his words true as Mahayuti won with a ‘historic’ victory.
The video footage shows Fadnavis making a statement in the assembly stating: “Mera paani utarta dekh mere kinare pe ghar mat basa lena. Main samandar hun laut kar wapis aaunga,” which roughly translates to, “Don’t build a house on my shore after seeing my water receding. I am an ocean, and I will come back.”
After his unanimous election as the Leader of Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party, Fadnavis said, “I thank everyone from the legislative party that you all chose me unanimously. I thank our central observers Vijay Rupani and Nirmala Sitharaman also. As you all know these were historic elections and these elections have proved that ‘Ek hai toh safe hai’ and ‘Modi hai toh mumkin hai’.”
“We have restarted our series of victories with Haryana and now Maharashtra has given such a thumping mandate that I completely bow down before the Maharashtra voters. I also thank CM Eknath Shidne and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and our other allies,” he added.
According to the official invitation card from Fadnavis’ office, the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for December 5 at Azad Maidan in Mumbai at 5.30 pm, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in attendance.
At the BJP legislative party meeting, the chief minister-elect thanked all leaders and MLAs present for their unanimous support in selecting him as the Leader of Maharashtra BJP Legislative Party.
He also acknowledged the contributions of caretaker chief minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and NDA leader Ramdas Athawle.
