A junior doctor was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping an 11-year-old patient admitted to the paediatric department of Sarojini Naidu Medical College (SNMC) in Agra on Tuesday night.
The principal of the college suspended Dilshad Hussain, 28, the first-year resident doctor, and set up three committees – disciplinary, departmental and internal – to probe the matter.
The girl, suffering from fever, was admitted to the emergency ward on Sept 6 before being shifted to the paediatric department the next day. Hussain, who was on duty at around 11.55pm on Tuesday, sexually assaulted her on the pretext of examining her, the girl’s mother stated in the police complaint.
