NEW DELHI: Gurgaon MP Inderjit Singh on Sunday took oath as minister of state in Modi government 3.0. Singh has been a prominent figure in southern Haryana and a representative of the region’s dominant Ahir community. Singh has been elected as a Lok Sabha MP for the sixth term, with his third term as a BJP member.
In Lok Sabha elections 2024, Singh successfully defended his Gurgaon seat, defeating his closest competitor, Raj Babbar of the Congress, by a margin of over 75,000 votes.Singh has developed a reputation as a straightforward and no-nonsense individual over the years.
Apart from representing Gurgaon, Singh has also served as an MP from Mahendragarh, now known as the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh constituency, twice. During his tenure, Gurgaon witnessed several developmental projects, including the foundation stone laying of an AIIMS in Rewari by the Prime Minister in February, improvements in road infrastructure, and the establishment of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority.
Prior to joining the BJP in 2014, Singh was a member of the Congress party and a sitting MP from Gurgaon. During the Congress regime, he accused the UPA-led Centre of being biased against south Haryana in terms of development work allocation, leading him to end his nearly four-decade association with the Congress and join the BJP.
