NEW DELHI: The Juvenile Justice Board on Wednesday extended the remand of the juvenile accused at the observation home. The minor will remain under custody until June 12.
Moreover, a court remanded the father and mother of the minor accused in the Pune car crash case to police custody until June 10 today. The court also extended the custody of Dr Srihari Halnor, Dr Ajay Taware, and Atul Ghatkamble until June 7.The five individuals were arrested in connection with the manipulation of blood samples belonging to the minor accused.
A forensic laboratory report confirmed that the blood samples of the minor’s mother were used to replace those of the 17-year-old driver involved in the fatal Porsche crash. The police informed the court about this development on Wednesday, leading to the extension of the parents’ police custody.
The teen’s mother was arrested on conspiracy charges on June 1, while the two doctors and the hospital employee were arrested last month for their alleged involvement in replacing the minor’s blood samples to conceal his intoxication at the time of the accident. It is suspected that one of the doctors was in contact with the teen’s father.
The Pune police had submitted an application to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), requesting a 14-day extension of the remand for the 17-year-old accused, who is currently housed in an observation home. The police’s plea was scheduled for a hearing before the JJB on Wednesday.
In the early morning of May 19, a tragic incident occurred in Pune resulting in the loss of two lives. The victims, both employed in the IT sector, were riding a two-wheeler when they were struck by a Porsche, allegedly driven by the minor.
Initially, the JJB granted bail to the teenager, the son of a real estate developer, shortly after the incident and instructed him to write a 300-word essay on road safety. However, following intense criticism, the police approached the JJB again, resulting in a modified order that sent the accused juvenile to the observation home until June 5.
Apart from the juvenile’s parents and the hospital staff, the police have also arrested the juvenile’s grandfather in connection with the incident. On Tuesday, two more individuals were arrested for allegedly acting as intermediaries and facilitating financial transactions between the accused doctors and the juvenile’s father.
