Wayanad or Rae Bareli? Suspense over Rahul Gandhi’s pick continues | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi‘s emphatic win in both the Rae Bareli and Wayanad constituency with over 3 lakh votes, speculations persist over which constituency will the former Congress chief pick to represent. Adding to the speculation, Congress’s ‘giant-killer’ Kishori Lal Sharma who defeated Smriti Irani in the Amethi constituency said that the ultimate decision lies with Rahul Gandhi.
KL Sharma who met the Gandhis today cleared the ultimate decision lies with Rahul.
“Up to him to decide,” Sharma said when reporters asked him about Rahul’s pick. He, however, added that he personally wants him to stay with Rae Bareli.
“I want him to keep Rae Bareli,” Sharma said.
Following the INDIA bloc’s strong showcase in the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul on June 4, addressed the speculations but said that he ‘has not yet decided’ on his future.
“I will think about it, ask around and then decide,” said Rahul at the press conference.
At the briefing, Rahul unleashed yet another attack on Prime Minister Modi and said “The people of the country have sent out a clear message to PM Modi – ‘we do not want you’.”
Citing the crash of Adani stocks after the results, Rahul alleged that there was a relationship of corruption between the Prime Minister and businessman Gautam Adani. “This was not a fight against just a party, it was a fight against a party and the administrative structure of the country captured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah,” Rahul said.
INDIA bloc won 234 seats in the Lok Sabha elections while the BJP-led NDA is on course to form its third consecutive government with 291 seats.
